1. Scope the household pickup
Share the exact Puerto Rico address, building or driveway access, inventory and requested pickup range. Ask which team handles collection and whether packing and disassembly are included. If a vehicle is involved, identify it separately.
2. Prepare the shipment
Confirm who provides packing materials, how fragile pieces are protected and how the inventory is documented. Keep travel essentials and important papers apart from the goods being transported. Ask for the procedure if something must be changed after the inventory is agreed.
3. Confirm ocean and mainland handoffs
Ask how the shipment moves through the ocean portion, what status updates to expect and who is responsible for scheduling mainland delivery. The specific routing and schedule depend on the provider; avoid assuming that a port arrival is the same day as home delivery.
4. Receive and check
Prepare the destination address, loading permission, contact person and any elevator reservation. At delivery, compare items against the inventory and follow the provider’s instructions for documenting any concern. Keep copies of the written proposal and service documents.
